So we know why the campsite had so many chickens, we think it was to eat the lovebugs.  Now from the name, you would think a lovebug would look like this..

Well in reality...they look like this..two of the ugly bugs join together like this...lovely...
And in great numbers they look like this...and if you don't wash them off your vehicle, they can remove the paint.  Some locals actually spray the front of their vehicles with "Pam", then they just wash off like magic, no scrubbing needed..
Lots more driving through marshy areas with the trees hanging over the road like this.
Took  Scenic Highway A1A as soon as we crossed into Florida, coastline all the way down.  Took the opportunity to stop quite often and enjoy the ocean.
There were actually sections of the old highway which were closed and now made into fishing bridges
This was in Jacksonville Florida, but very typical for this whole area, and also in Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.  And that would explain all the crazy bridges everywhere..
More beautiful beaches all along the coastline...hard not to stop at all of them...

Found a great little town, St. Augustine, where we parked and went for a walk on the waterfront.

Could have spent several hours here but once again, had to force ourselves to get back on the road .

This was a typical view on the drive, lots of great homes, some small and some enormous...

By about 3:00 we decided that we were done for the day and were really fortunate to get a beachfront site at Gamble Rogers Memorial State Park. Found out later it was very unusual for there to even be a spot available, let alone a beachfront site....and just steps from our trailer, this is what we were greeted with...

There were lots of these crazy little birds that would run up to the water looking for food, then when the wave would come they would run for their lives....crazy fast
But these guys, they were too cool to run, they would just pluck little sealife out of the sand for dinner.

We walked forever and the water was so warm we enjoyed an afternoon and evening of playing in the waves..

So we once again found it hard to leave our campsite. It really was beautiful being on the ocean. We woke in the morning, made coffee and went for a walk on the inter coastal waterway which was just across the road and watched these crazy fish that literally jumped a foot directly up in the air..... Then as we were sitting there, a school of about 30 small fish all at once skipped across the surface of the water towards us...really crazy fish here in Florida.
We finally left the campsite and our first stop was at Daytona Beach.

So in Daytona Beach you can park your vehicle right on the beach. And it has been this way for many years. So behind all these people sunbathing their vehicles are parked. The hard packed sand made Daytona Beach a mecca for motorsports with the old Daytona Beach Race Course having hosted races here on the beach for over 50 years. This course was replaced in 1959 by the Daytona International Speedway

And then the famous Daytona Beach Boardwalk  with restaurants and places for people to fish.  This is one of the best known sites in Daytona Beach
And a nice park area to relax under the trees..

Our next stop was the Daytona International Speedway.  It was such an impressive place.

We were able to go and sit in the bleachers and imagine the race in our minds....the sound must be deafening during a race
And of course you always need a picture beside a race car..
And we are on our way again, making slow tracks towards the Florida Keys..
