Nothing like a road trip to Tampa to beat the wet weather. But the weather did not improve, it actually got worse, so most of our view of Tampa was through the truck window...no reason to stop anywhere, it was blowing and pouring...
So we headed to St. Petersburg in the hopes that the weather would improve and it did...slightly...So at least we got to get out and check out some of the waterfront...This was the Historic Vinoy Park Hotel, looked interesting from the outside so thought we better check it out...
This display in the lobby was by Dale Chihuly, an American Glass Sculptor
In between the rain showers, we were able to tour around some more. This bird saw something in the window of this boat and would not leave it alone..
Downtown St. Petersburg was very nice, and I think it would have been much nicer had it not just rained for three days straight...
We stopped at a pub for a beer and something to eat...When the waitress asked if we would like a small or large one, we figured, sure make it a large, what the heck...turned out to be really large...32 ounces....
Drove out to Fort De Soto Park, which used to be a military post, but is now a campground, fishing piers and endless beaches and park areas...
But on the way there, I was blown away by this enormous pink building in the distance....We just had to find out what it was ...It is known as Florida's "Pink Palace," the Loews Don CeSar Hotel. Very impressive.
So on the way back to our campsite, we had to go over yet another bridge...This one was crazy!!!. The Travel Channel
rated the Sunshine Skyway Bridge #3 in its special on the "Top 10 Bridges" in
the World. The bridge is considered the "flag bridge" of Florida.
By late afternoon it looked like the rain had finally finished and bits of blue sky started to emerge...made for a beautiful sunset..
We are looking forward to the warmer drier weather ahead...
