Our second day in Charleston we enjoyed a day of kayaking at Shem Creek, which is an inter coastal waterway. It's a very popular place to kayak, paddle board and fish in the area. We hadn't been out for more than 10 minutes when we saw dolphins swimming in the area.  Some came up no more than 3-4 feet from our kayaks and we saw many more in the area.  Didn't get any pictures of them as by the time you got the camera ready again, they were back under...

Lots of fishing boats and kayak and paddleboard rental places and restaurants lined the waterway. We spent a few hours paddling around out to the open water and out to Pelican Island.

The afternoon was busy with lots of fishing boats coming in after a day of fishing, seagulls following along looking for some fish scraps..
And the lazy ones just sitting around waiting...not sure if that pelican realizes he's the only one...
More amazing homes on the waterfront...

Then we took our kayaks through some of the marshy areas, narrow bends and curves...really murky water...who knows what was lurking under there....lots of old boats and houses...

Finished off the afternoon talking with a local gentleman who saw our BC plates and just had to see what we were doing clear across the country.  We talked for quite some time with him and he was nice enough to offer us the use of his paddleboards the next day, said if he wasn't home, he would just leave all the stuff in his back yard for us, we could help ourselves...and who said Americans aren't friendly??  Unfortunately, it was time to move on....maybe next time
