Quaint little town...little bit of a run-down, back-road kinda town...
Which is run by "Donkeys"...yes, Donkeys...they were everywhere...careful where you walk......
All the stores sell "donkey cubes" which are what you feed them...and when they hear the bag opening....they all come running and start pushing....
The little guys that are still nursing are not allowed to be fed...so someone in town makes labels for them...too cute...
"Donkey carwash" here in Oatman....
They will not move over for vehicles, the really own this place...
Not sure if this was a joke....but I think not...
Then it was off to Lake Havasu City...All along the drive you would see glimpses of beautiful blue water against the desert sand...very striking...
The locals say normally it's pretty quiet here, during the week the retired people take over the town, but on the weekends, look out. It is CRAZY!!!!. This weekend was particularly crazy as it was "Thunder on the River-Lucas Oil Drag Boat Races" We have never seen so many boats in one area, and they were crazy, big, flashy, noisy, expensive boats...
And since it's a crazy "event weekend"....even this doesn't look so out of place.....
They were all lined up on the waters edge, people barbequing, drinking, sun bathing, just hanging out...
We could hear the races going on in the distance so decided we better check it out...We didn't really want to buy tickets to get in....so....we found a little spot....just the right size for a couple of Canadians to fit through...
This guy was amazing, he was using a "jet pack" and the stunts he was doing were crazy...
We decided to check out the rest of the area so we walked down the river to the "London Bridge". It was opened in 1831 spanning the River Thames in London, England. By 1924 the bridge was sinking so the City of London put it up for sale. The winning bid went to the founder of Lake Havasu City for $2,460,000.00. Each block was numbered, then disassembled and shipped to California and trucked to Lake Havasu City, where it was reconstructed and opened in 1971. Who does this????
From the top of the bridge you could get a great view of what was happening on the water...
And from there we found a great little pizza place and just by chance...they also had ice cold beer to go with that pizza...and a great view...
I Love this one!!!!...half way up a long flight of stairs beside the "London Bridge"...
They also had jet ski races going on...we thought of bringing our kayaks out but decided we were probably safer on land...there was a lot of crazy stuff happening in the water here..
We found a great little place to enjoy the scenery and also to enjoy a "margarita or two or three" ...There were a lot of "party boats" enjoying the great weather..
The evening also brought with it another"Jet Ski event" where we got to see "Jet Pack Guy" yet again...
Another great day on our USA adventure....
I've been meaning to tell you ever since I started reading your blog that your writing and input about every place is well written and the pictures are great. Great job Linda and Hi George.
