Today we headed to New Orleans...away from the white beaches and into another world...We left Florida, hit Alabama, Mississippi, and then into Lousiana. Some of the small towns had decorated for Thanksgiving and Halloween...most of the banks and credit unions had displays out front...
More cotton fields, swampy boggy areas, nothing really new. Cloudy skies expected for the next couple of days, but still going to be pretty warm. Started to see a few towns that were using their prison inmates to do lawn maintenance...great idea!!!
What we did notice was lingering devastation from Hurricane Katrina in 2005 ...I would say 80% of the beachfront was vacant from Biloxi to Long Beach, probably 30 miles or so. You could see homes back a few streets, but just vacant lots and "For Sale" signs all along the waterfront. There was the odd home rebuilt, but very few.
This was really strange....There was a guy that was sweeping the leaves from inside the remaining foundation of a home that had obviously been devastated by Katrina...Crazy because that was back in 2005...sad...One can only think this may be a form of therapy for someone who lost everything...
