Another night of Walmart camping got us on the road early. We were driving through Ottawa, Illinois when we discovered this church that was in the process of a major renovation with scaffolding everywhere. Just had to stop and check it out...St. Columba Catholic Church was undergoing a 3 1/2 million dollar renovation, they were taking the exterior back to its original state, new slate roof, new copper trim and all new lead in the stained glass windows....
The town was also in the top 3 running for "Blooms of America" so the downtown area was very colourful will their many murals and flowers everywhere you looked.
So after walking around Ottawa, it was time to hit the road the travel the rest of the way across Illinois, staying on the outside of Chicago, the tip of Indiana along Lake Michigan and up through southern Michigan and into Toledo Ohio. We put on a few miles that day and no shortage of visits to the gas station....
